Blue Planet’s CCUS technology promotes circular economy as a process of mineralizing industrial waste, such as recycled concrete, cement kiln dust (CKD) and slag, will make new integrated products. This investment is another step toward Holcim’s desire to be a world leader in innovative and sustainable building solutions.
“To stay ahead of sustainable actions in our industry, it is necessary to be innovative and build ongoing partnerships,” said Toufic Tabbara, Regional Manager, North America. “Our investment provides a very important opportunity to influence the development of future technologies in the CCUS space while expanding the network of companies with the same values and beliefs in carbon neutrality in further efforts around the world including the other investors in the Blue Planet. »
Holcim North America, a combination of Lafarge Canada and Holcim US, and Blue Planet will begin a multi-year strategic collaboration to identify opportunities to use mineralization technology to further reduce the carbon footprint in cement, aggregates and concrete, with the possibility of expanding into other Holcim Group operations around the world.
“This represents an important milestone for us in North America. Our ambition is to make our St. Constant plant in Montreal, Quebec a site that will ultimately advance the commercialization of mineralization technologies, including mineralization technologies. Blue Planet, “added David Redfern, President and CEO of Lafarge Canada. “We look forward to advancing our carbon neutral approach by using mineralization technology that allows us to use CO2 from our own cement plants to produce carbon neutral or carbon negative sand and gravel products. »
“By focusing on composite concrete components, our technology can have a greater impact on the carbon incorporated into concrete than a traditional approach focused on reducing the cement component only. This partnership with Holcim will help us apply our CO2 mineralization technology to large -scale cement operations. We expect this technology to act directly on CO2 emissions, ”commented Brent R. Constantz, Ph.D., CEO of Blue Planet.
