Do you want to be paid to give your opinion?

Here’s a simple and pretty fun way to earn a few extra dollars a month, without getting too busy with your daily life. You just need to let us know your opinion. And to be ready to spend time in front of your phone or computer screen. How long ? The equivalent of a few social media loading sessions, shall we say. The job: answer online surveys.

Businesses, researchers and governments need to know what people are thinking to guide their decisions about developing products, policies, etc. But to feel the pulse of a society, you need volunteers who are willing to reveal the heart of their thoughts, and here you come in.

Some survey sites in Canada reward participants by offering points that can be redeemed for gift cards or cash (via PayPal or prepaid credit cards). By answering fifteen surveys in a spare time over two weeks, representing more than three hours, I got a prepaid credit card worth $ 20. Not enough to quit your job, but a little extra is not painful.

Three test sites

I signed up for three Canadian sites that offer surveys in French: LEO, created in 2004 by pollster Léger, which has more than 400,000 members in Canada and the United States; the Angus Reid Forum, attached to the research institute of the same name; and MOBROG Canada, owned by German market research firm Splendid Research.

The operation of the three platforms is almost the same. When you create your account, you need to set up your profile. And therefore answer the personal question: age (in LEO, that is possibleregister from 14 years of age, inclapproval ofparent), place of residence, level of education, household composition, income, etc.

The three platforms guarantee that your personal data will remain confidential, that your answers will be anonymous and your contact details will not be passed on to third parties, unless you allow it. Therefore, you will not receive targeted advertising.

Once your profile has been created, you will be sent invitations via email when the corresponding surveys are available. The duration usually varies from 5 to 30 minutes. The longer the survey, the better the rewards, and because you’ve been notified about the expected time and what the survey will earn you, you know what to expect.

However, a certain number of points must be accumulated to get rewards. The minimum payment limit is 5 euros (about $ 6.86) at MOBROG, 20 dollars at LEO and 25 dollars at Angus Reid Forum.

Variable experience

I started the adventure at the end of April, by opening an account on three sites. I decided to answer all the surveys that would be offered to me, but I immediately realized that the offer varies greatly from one platform to another. In two weeks, I only received five surveys from Angus Reid. MOBROG regularly invited me to participate in surveys, which I took before I learned, after a few questions, that my profile did not match what I was looking for in the study. So much that I ended up giving up. I was also kicked out of some polls while in LEO, but more often. And each time, I was offered a small compensation in the form of points.

The experience has also proven to be more conclusive on the Léger platform. The interface is easy to use, the mobile app makes it easy to take surveys on the go, and new surveys are offered almost daily.

Above all, the topics themselves, local issues, minteresting: my participation allowed me to give my opinion on a new home billing system for electric vehicles, the availability of pipelines in Quebec, the identity of Quebec or a new offer to promote cultural that outing. More engaging than questions about the scent of liquid detergent, let’s say.

Since the surveys offered vary according to the respondent’s profile, it’s likely that your experience is different from mine and you prefer a different platform.

Ah yes, advice to the smart little ones who want to reap the rewards by answering anything in a hurry. Some questions are designed to expose you. Let me know which one!
