To support the commercial launch, Conviva is releasing its first State of Streaming Report in Japan. The highlights of the Japanese market are as follows:
In Q4 2021 (October to December), the total increase in minutes streamed was +7% worldwide, +0.2% in the US, while Japan saw an incredible increase of +92%.
In particular, minutes streamed on TV increased +110%, and the nation’s total share in minutes streamed increased 24 times compared to the United States. This increase seems to have been influenced by sales of large connected televisions in Japan.
Streaming quality indicators have improved significantly, including a significant reduction in buffering rates and a significant improvement in image quality. In particular, the average boot time is at least 30% faster than in the US and appears to lead to increased gaming time.
Conviva’s Q4 2021 Japan State of Streaming report includes additional analysis from the global report originally published on January 24, 2022. The additional analysis compares the United States and Japan to the rest of the world. Details can be downloaded from the official website.
