The leader also stressed the importance of “data advantage” in the automation of data protection, management and analysis. “All the new tools in companies consume a lot of shared data and computing in on-premise or cloud mode.” But the first threat to businesses is undoubtedly the waves of ransomware that extend as far as the threat to their existence. “Cyber-resilience is becoming a necessity,” continued Michael Dell, who then handed over to his COO, Chuck Whitten, to showcase the latest solutions from the infrastructure supplier.

“The future is multicloud, companies staying in places will be lagging behind,” said the COO of Dell Technologies. “But data is maintained in silo mode with each cloud operator, which is why we position ourselves at the center of the cloud ecosystem as a leader in infrastructure to support businesses. It’s about giving businesses a choice of how they use IT resources. This last point has been at the heart of Dell Technologies ’strategy for more than a year with the Apex program, the supplier as a service offer. Consumption-based — with a one- or three-year subscription — Apex delivers cloud-like pricing and deployment flexibility in on-premises environments for storage, server, and hyperconverged system services. In addition to the cloud services announced last January, Dell launched Apex Cyber ​​Recovery. This is the first in a series of full-stack solutions that aim to deliver a cloud-like experience and are designed to simplify recovery from cyberattacks. With this solution, Dell supports daily backup operations in one environment and provides data restoration when needed. The offer includes a selection of standardized configurations, simplified Dell-assisted recovery options, and expertise with nearly 2,000 secure and separate platforms deployed worldwide. Although this solution is only available to customers in the United States, it will arrive in other countries later this year.

More security for backups

During the keynote, Chuck Whitten announced that the PowerProtect Cyber ​​Recovery service will be coming to Azure, after being introduced on AWS in December. Note that this is a secure and refreshed backup space that allows companies to have a separate data sanctuary that is unaffected by cyberattacks, ransomware and more. Additionally, this solution provides customers with flexible disaster recovery options. So companies can choose between recovery options within their own data centers, with the new Azure private network or an unaffected Azure environment, the vendor said in a press release. “There is an immediate need for our customers to protect their backups in a sanctuary,” Sébastien Verger, technical director of Dell Technologies France, told us in a pre-briefing. “The two solutions, Cyber ​​Sense and Cyber ​​Recovery are called to work together,” said David Noy in Las Vegas, vice president managing data management at Dell Technologies, in an interview in Las Vegas. Vegas. “Data security is no longer an option, it has become an absolute necessity”.

With Cyber ​​Sense for AWS, Dell adds scanning capabilities to volumes backed up in its partner’s cloud to ensure that backups are not infected or compromised by ransomware. The tool evaluates the percentage of changes from one backup to another by looking at block and file granularity, David Noy told us. The service allows businesses to monitor files and databases hosted on AWS to determine when a cyberattack is occurring and identify the last known undamaged copy of that data to facilitate recovery. Additionally, it can assist with investigations, providing access to machine learning and evidence -finding tools to find out what happened, assess how it happened, and ultimately expedite data recovery. “Often, companies find with frustration that they were attacked three years ago and the back-up, which is the last line of defense, has been compromised.” Cyber ​​Sense for AWS will be available next June, the manager told us. And then to Azure, but briefly. Finally, in order to offer more options to its customers, Dell is also expanding its cloud ecosystem by partnering with Snowflake, the data store expert in cloud mode. Companies that partner with Dell will therefore be able to take advantage of the analysis tools available on the Snowflake platform and marketplace with their data stored online or locally.

A successful merger

Six years after acquiring EMC, Dell has nearly completed the integration of its ranges. If the Avamar and Isilon Systems lines still exist, all other storage solutions will be radically redesigned (PowerMax or PPDM) to support the rise of public cloud across companies.
