Perhaps the most striking description of the extreme pollution associated with wealth inequality in recent years is the development of space travel. Space travel is expected to cost several thousand dollars to tens of millions of dollars per trip. An 11-minute flight puts out at least 75 tons of carbon per passenger when indirect missions are considered (and more likely approximately 250,000 tons). at the other end of the distribution, approximately one billion people put in less than a ton per person per year. Over the course of their lives, this group of one billion individuals emit no more than 75 tons of carbon per person.
